Re: Mouse with uri not improving
Usually Baytril on its own is pretty effective, although you may want to call your vet anyway and get their opinion.
I do think 2.5% is correct, though again it might not hurt to get your vet's suggestion.

Re: Mouse with uri not improving
I'm not aware of the dose for mice, however when I had to treat my 27 gram budgie with baytril, his dose was .01 ml of 100mg/ml baytril once a day. I imagine it would be similar for a mouse if they weigh about the same, but only at that concentration. .01 ml ended up being about 1 drop of medicine.
I'm not a vet but I don't think the concentration on it's own is particularly important, I actually think it might be better to give 1/4 of what you would give with 2.5% if you can figure out the dose and just not dilute the 10% baytril. Then you wouldn't have to give them as much, and it would be easier on the mouse, because 1 drop of more concentrated medicine would go down easier than, say, half a syringe full of 2.5%, and they would be getting the same amount of actual medicine.
Perhaps there's something special about mice that would make this not the case but if there is I don't know about it.

Re: Mouse with uri not improving
I reached out to some breeders (who often need to know this info since they have so many mice). I was sent this. He said you could use this for oral enro as well.

Hopefully that makes sense to anyone else, I have no clue what it's saying.
I'm glad I've never had to medicate at home, but it's good to know how if you live in an area where proper treatment is hard to come by.

Re: Mouse with uri not improving
They have been on the baytril for a few days now but I am once again not seeing any improvement. Could it be that this is something other than a respiratory infection?
They’ve been rattling and sneezing for a month now and I’ve tried 3 different antibiotics. None of them have been working but their symptoms aren’t getting worse either. They’re still super active and aren’t showing any signs of slowing down.

Re: Mouse with uri not improving
I now have them on both baytril and doxy and I thought I was seeing improvement but now they’re doing worse than ever before. I don’t understand.

Re: Mouse with uri not improving
Oh no. ): I wonder if the vet would have any other ideas for treatment? Maybe there's another antibiotic they could try?

Re: Mouse with uri not improving
They seem to be doing better again. I don’t know why it was so bad yesterday. I think I’m just going to finish the course of baytril and doxy and if they aren’t doing better after this I might just have to take them back to the rescue I got them from. I’ve already spent close to €200 on them and I don’t have much more.

Read this great informative pamphlet, see if it gives you any ideas or even bring it to your vet. Hmmmm, won't upload as pdf. Maybe I can send it as a PM? Or email? Or Google "chronic respiratory disease in rats and mice". That will show you a link from the sawnee animal clinic that is the pdf which you can then download.

I read that a while ago. If it is chronic I’m definitely going to have to take them back though. I already have 2 other mice and they were supposed to be together in my large tank. They can’t go in with my other 2 mice if they’re sick and I don’t have another enclosure that is big enough for them. They’re in a smaller bin cage right now.

Re: Mouse with uri not improving
I read an article where Zithromax was recommended, any one with experience in Zithro and URI on mice?

Re: Mouse with uri not improving
I contacted the rescue I got them from. The mice I have were with 6 others in 1 cage and the rescue said none of the others are showing symptoms. Could it be that they caught it on the trip? I noticed they were sick the day after I got them. And what could it be if they caught it during the trip and antibiotics aren’t making it better?
The rescue also recommended thyme oil. Does anybody have experience with this?

Re: Mouse with uri not improving
I don't have any experience there, but I would imagine there's a few different remedies they've had to come up with since medication seems harder to come by there.
The stress of the switch could have just set it off from what I've heard. Stressed mice develop illnesses faster, and new homes are rough!

Re: Mouse with uri not improving
Is there anything around them that could be irritating them? Any sprays or strong scents or drafts? Dust? Perhaps it’s scarring from a prior infection. Maybe your vet would be open to seeing if some type of steroid helps them improve.

I'm so worried about the mouses, I wish we could find a cure for them
. Are they getting worse?
