The beginning of the end.
As some of you may know, I found a lump on the front of Gilly's neck, in the thyroid area. I've had quite a few critters with tumors in this spot and they get real sick, real fast. She's nearly 27 months old... she's had a really great life. I love her so very much. The tumor seems to be getting bigger everyday but she's still doing great. It seems to be growing more into her armpit that into her neck, so hopefully it wont press on her neck.
I had a going away party for her, we like to celebrate life around here. Gilly *loves* fresh, wiggly worms- so I let her eat a lot of them. And I've been giving so many treats that I gave her diarrhea. Oops, lol. That's okay, she loves oat! I guess oats will be tonights treat.
To me, the worst part of this is thinking about Furgie and the rest of the colony. But Gilly has lived a year and a half past when I thought she would. I was so close to putting her to sleep over her OCD last February. My Gilly is a fighter but I think she's ready to go now. She has Penny and Annie waiting for her, along with all the TFM & PMF mice that have passed... there must be some sort of mouse club up there where they talk about us

Well, now's the time for treats and extra attention and then some more treats. Over 2 years is a good long time for little Gilly to share with you.

Yes any excuse for a mouse party. I like to give a treat buffet and decorate their cage with paper chains everywhere when I give them a mouse party. I too have going away parties when I realise a mouse doesn't have long left. As heartbreaking as it is, we must always try to celebrate the time we have our mice. Especially when we're lucky enough to have them for a long time.
Really hope her remaining days are as happy as can be for both of you.

What a wonderful party she had - now is the time to give her tons of nice treats and extra attention. Celebrating a mouses life is always a good thing, they love it, and it makes saying goodbye easier. 27 months is a very long, happy life.

I'm sorry about poor Gilly.
A going away party is such a sweet idea! The night before I separated my baby boys from their moms, we had a party too, but I never thought about having a going away party.

Yeah it can be tough, it sounds like you have a good attitude and are doing the best for your mouse.
