Pet mouse smells
I know male pet mice smell a bit and mine isn’t too bad but I have noticed he himself smells of urine just a bit. It’s not really strong but he definitely isnt odourless. Any reason why? He’s 1 and a hald years old

Re: Pet mouse smells
Mice pee as they walk around, and then walk through it again. The urine of male mice is much stronger smelling than that of females and they mark more.
My two boys are the same age as yours and I've found that if their enclosures are a good size and regularly cleaned (I replace only half the bedding each time so as not to motivate them to start marking like mad which they do if the bedding is all new) the odour is greatly reduced.
Their wheels get pretty filthy nearly every day, so I do constantly clean those. They poop and pee in the wheels and then run in it. Maybe your wheel could be part of the problem with yours?

Re: Pet mouse smells
That’s probably it, he has a wooden wheel so that’s probably not going to help, maybe I’ll seal it with something to protect it from urine

OH, yes - wood does soak up the urine. My mice have logs they stink up and I scrub them regularly and let them dry.
If you use something to seal up the wheel, just make sure it's completely non-toxic and pet-safe. Something that might be okay for other animals to walk on often is not for rodents, since they pee everywhere and can end up with sealant on their feet which they will ingest.
I found this out a very sad way when I had a rat I allowed to run all over an antique table I had and that's exactly what happened to her.
