So, I lost my little Fig a few weeks ago. I haven't wanted to post about it as I've been grieving pretty hard. He was only 8 1/2 months old but he developed a large stomach tumour that was affecting his breathing, so I had to bring him in for euthanasia. I'm still pretty devastated as he was so very very special to me, so loving and cuddly, always keeping me company. I was just able to bring myself to clean his toys and cage etc today. I will be getting another mouse or 2 or 3, I will introduce them once I get them, hopefully they will help me heal.

Oh, Dee : (  I'm so sorry to hear that. I know how painful that is, just feeling so helpless.

The one thing that has helped me in these times is the thought that, while death is a bridge that we will all cross, not all of us will have a life full of love first. That's the part that we can control for our little families, and it is clear that Fig was loved right up to the brim.

And remember that grief is a form of praise, too; you don't have to rush it.

Awww, I'm so sorry to hear that. I so enjoyed your stories about little Figgus and your obvious love for him. He was indeed a mouse of great character!

He had a wonderful life that few mice get with all the tender loving care and spoiling he got.

Something that has helped me each time I lost a beloved pet - cat, dog, rat, or mouse, is this poem. It puts things into perspective, I think.

Fragile Circle

"We who choose to surround ourselves with lives even more temporary than our own, live within a fragile circle, easily and often breached.

Unable to accept its awful gaps, we still would live no other way.
We cherish memory as the only certain immortality,
never fully understanding the necessary plan."

~Irving Townsend~.

My precious Myrtle was my first mouse and always came when I called her. She sat on my shoulder and loved to cuddle. She was a "feeder" so obviously not well bred. She was very active and I built a small safe and secure playground for her because she hated the 5 story expensive penthouse small animal cage that I  got for her. At 8 months old one night she suddenly just sat not moving so I took her to the vet who told me she had a massive abdominal tumor and was in a lot of pain. I had to euthanize her and that was almost 4 months ago but I am still grieving. I know exactly how you feel as I will always miss her. I spent time softly stroking her at the vet's before they put her to sleep and told her I would see her again at the rainbow bridge where she would be so happy and healthy again.
I take small consolation in the fact that she was never fed to a snake as mice in some pet stores are bred and sold just for that reason.

Thanks you @michelelaforte9@gmail.com . I think of Figgus every night and sometimes I can smile at all the things we did together, the cute things he did, and ways he acted. It's weird, I love all animals and have lost dogs and cats before, but this really seems to have affected me a lot, I think because he was so small and helpless and completely mine. I think of all my furries playing together at the rainbow Bridge, waiting for me and how joyous our reunion will be, as yours and Myrtle's will be.
