How early do mice need to be handled?

Post by MouseLover on Wed 20 Jul 2016, 3:47 pm

Some mice have finally become available in my area and I have gotten in contact with the owner. They are currently 8 weeks old. When I asked the owner how often the mice are handled and since how old, they said that they are handled almost daily since they were 10 days old.

I know that mice can be handled from a younger age, so I was just wondering - from what age do mice need to be handled from in order for them to be sociable and not too skittish with humans? Does 10 days sound okay?

Just wanted to check before I make plans to go and see these guys Smile

10 days sounds fine. Most people start handling at three, but 10 sounds wonderful.

If she's a good, experienced breeder, she will know her mice.
If she'd been a clueless owner with an accidentally-pregnant mouse, I would have said that 10 days was too late.

Isn't it a thing that if they're handled only starting at 10 days, they'll have a really bad popcorn stage? I think I heard that somewhere.

It was a planned litter but I don't know much more than that at this stage Worry sigh, good mice are so hard to find right now Sad

Not if the line has been born already tame for generations. They won't have a popcorn stage, handled or not.
