Autonomic Sensory Meridian Response

Post by Brynne on Fri Aug 05, 2016 9:22 am

Does anyone else appreciate this? I'd either never heard of ASMR or never cared enough to learn what it meant. Two days ago, I clicked open a video of it on youtube after following the train of thought/degrees of Bacon suggestions which occur there. It was just someone holding up a succession of household objects and shaking them to make audio into the camera's mic. I was not impressed and was ready to move on until I realised that the back of my head had this lovely tingly sensation all over.

It's wonderfully weird and yet boringly banal at the same time. Items as worthless as trash can be used as fun audio instruments. The less creepy aspects of it look fun to do, as well! I want to see if my little camera can handle recording me as I do such jaw-dropping actions as colour a picture with loud, scratchy markers! Oooh! Or squish bubble wrap! Or rap my nails on cardboard! Whoo-hoo, the excitement!!!

Seriously, this is a 'thing' now.

Strange! Never heard of it. No tingling when I YouTubed it. Razz I loved playing with my nails when I had them done for my wedding, though. It drove Evan crazy. lol

I used to think ASMR was something, er, not appropriate, so I ignored it. But now that I know what it is, I may have to get into it someday!

Here's a good one, with no creepy whispering. When you have a few minutes, listen to a bit of it with headphones in a quiet area. Skip ahead to a few
different parts of the video to get the gist:

CP- As for inappropriate, that was what I wondered, too! One of my recent neighbours was an, ahem, "telephone actress." So I thought of her. There are indeed some women posting thumbnails of their bras with 'girlfriend experience' in the description. Yuck, I will steer clear of that area of the genre.
The beloved painter Bob Ross is constantly cited as the inspiration for ASMR. His live painting sessions were a staple of PBS in the late 20th century. I'll focus on THAT history, not the "absolutely everything can be turned into po rn" aspect.
