How fast should mice breathe?

Post by River on Wed Aug 24, 2016 8:41 pm

I'm not used to rodent breathing, so I'm curious! It looks like they breathe very fast. I'm assuming that's normal, but now I wonder; how do you know when the breathing is too fast?

I'm curious too. After having lots of sick mice, I've pretty much forgotten what's normal and what's not.

I heard that a mouse's heart beats 700 times a minute, so I'm guessing their breathing should be crazy fast too.

I don't think you should worry about how fast they breathe, rather what they look like when they're breathing (i.e. labored breathing signs) and whether they make sounds when they breathe. I hold my mice up to my ear when I'm doing a health check hehe.
