Throwaway Animals
I need to vent about something that's been bothering me.
So there's my aimless little rant. Not as poignant as I would like, but I got my feelings out there, at least.
- WARNING:
- In my searches for fun mousey things on the internet, I've stumbled across some descriptions and videos of rather terrible things being done to mice. Of course there's the typical live feeding videos, but I've also seen people using tasers to electrocute mice to death, mice being drowned or lit on fire just for the hell of it, mice having pots of boiling water dumped onto them, male mice being castrated while stuck to glue traps, et cetera. Now being a frequent user of sites like 4chan and stuff, things like this don't disturb me much anymore (I've seen a lot of nasty things being done to living people online), but the attitude behind all of this despicable behavior does bother me: this attitude that mice are throwaway animals, no different from crickets or mealworms, despite the fact that they are vastly more complex and intelligent creatures than any insect and overall have more in common with humans than with insects. And then these people will argue that it's okay because mice are prey animals, and that them being killed by larger creatures is only "natural". But there's nothing natural about a mouse being trapped in a glass box with a predatory animal with no chance of escape. Nature plays fair. Nature is survival of the fittest; either the predator is more fit than the prey and gets to eat, or vice versa and the prey gets to live. By taking away a mouse's ability to escape, you take away its means of defending itself, and it stops being "natural". What's more is that more than probably any other "feeder" animal, mice are treated as playthings by people. Things to torment because you can, because you feel like it. And that bothers me. It bothers me because mice are so innocent, and yet people treat them horribly because they just can. It makes me angry that so many mice, who, given the chance, could provide such love and companionship, are instead brutally killed for no good reason. It just sucks.
So there's my aimless little rant. Not as poignant as I would like, but I got my feelings out there, at least.

I really feel so disgusted by people who torture any living thing. In my opinion people who do things like that are very dangerous people because they can't have a conscience and therefore are capable of horrible acts to anyone.

Re: Throwaway Animals
Your concerns over not having a conscience are not unfounded. Many serial killers start out by killing animals. It's one of the major warning signs of a sociopath.Rodents rock! wrote:I really feel so disgusted by people who torture any living thing. - Spoiler:
- But I also think that some people aren't outright malicious, they just feel that something like a mouse is too insignificant to bother caring about. Like the person I read about today who bought a fancy mouse just so that he could put it in a ball and let his cat play with it like a toy, then once his cat got bored with it he "released" it into his backyard.

Yes, I have heard that is a tell tale sign, it is a proven fact. Very scary stuff. Breaks my heart what some innocent animals go through.
No living thing is insignificant.

Re: Throwaway Animals
I can't even being to comment on this. It is the most horrible thing. I hope there is a special place in hell for these monsters that harm innocent creatures. A place where their fingernails are pulled out, they are set on fire, stepped on, stabbed, pulled apart for all of eternity.
I hate thinking about this because as awful as it is... there are monsters out there that like to do these things to people. And this is too much for my mind and heart to cope with.

Re: Throwaway Animals
They should have the same thing done to them that they do to innocent animals.

Re: Throwaway Animals
People who have fun torturing animals are freaking psychopaths who should be locked up before they get bored and move on to people. I hate nothing more than these monsters

Re: Throwaway Animals
Not even going to read it. I can predict quite well what it'll contain, and it's not subject matter I'm willing to dive into right now. Stuff like this hurts me to the point that I have to choose not to care, otherwise it tears me apart. You all should've seen me on an aquarium forum I went on when I was in 5-6 grade. Verbally attacking anyone who did anything wrong with their fish, even if they were honest mistakes. Animal abuse brings out a lot of anger in me that I don't like. Someday I hope I can handle it well enough to actually do some good for animals that go through things like that.
