Temperature

Post by River on Sun 04 Sep 2016, 7:39 pm

I know mice should be kept at a temperature between 65-80 F. How do you guys keep track of the temperature of the mice? Should I purchase one of those thermometers used for reptiles?
Also, what about humidity? Is there a humidity recommended for mice?

Humidity should be between 30% and 70%. I'm thinking 35-40% is what's ideal. I've used a thermometer/hygrometer combo sold for reptiles in the past, mostly to monitor the humidity for a sick mouse. Now I just go by the central air/heating thermostat and what my clock says the humidity is. Razz

I just use a thermometer/hygrometer combo in the room they're kept in. I like this one: http://m.lowes.com/pd/Acu-Rite-Digital-Weather-Station-Wireless-Outdoor-Sensor/3103661.  (I use the outdoor sensor in my crabitat)

Haha, as a reptile keeper I have a serious hatred of those little circular thermometers. I guess they'd be accurate enough for a mammal though lol. I actually use a Zoomed heat mat under the part of the tank where the houses are, hooed up to a thermostat set at 70. The thermostat keeps the heat pad at that temp and turns it off if it malfunctions, so they can have a warm nest whenever they want (I have RLS so I keep my room really cool to help my symptoms).
Mr. Biscuit seemed to really enjoy it as he got older. That's a pretty involved setup for anyone who doesn't have a ton of extra reptile gear lying around though.

Aaw, I can definitely imagine an older mouse enjoying that Smile toasty!
