New mousey-mum to 6 little girrls X
Hi, i'm a new mousey mum to 6 adorable little girls..my husband and i are totally in lurve!!!
There names are 'Flicker' ; 'Snow' ; 'Ratti' ; 'FawnMoss' ; 'Gigdet' and 'Kiki'.
All are doing really really well, except for 'Kiki'... i've had them home for 2 weeks now and she has changed from a small slender mouse into an equally tiny hunchback shape. The others are thriving whilst she is becoming more hunchy everyday
I have looked on the internet and found that some mice can be born with a rapid aging condition, causing this hunching, and they don't live long. I don't know if that is what it is, but it seems to describe her exactly.
Anyway, i cried alot when i found out..feeling a bit better today and eventually found this forum..phew!
I have Bunnies aswell and am a member on a Rabbit Forum.
So pleased to have found you
Any thoughts or experiences of sudden onset hunchback in young mice would be much appreciated.
Thankyou, Kind Regards

Hi and welcome to the forum
congratulations on your new pets, mice are awesome
Having a hunched over posture is generally a sign that the mouse is unwell or in pain. I'm not familiar with the rapid aging condition you mentioned, but the hunched posture can be seen in mice suffering from many different conditions. How old are your mice? And does your mouse have any other symptoms? e.g. Noisy breathing? Chittering sounds? Diarrhea?
In order to get to try and help your little mouse, I really think the best thing would be to get her to a vet. She may need antibiotics or some other medication.

Thanks for your reply...yes mice are definately awesome
Her breathing sounds clear and there is no chittering that is noticeable . I havn't found any soft poops so far.. she is busy, curious, eating well, drinking water and playing as much as the others, as well as snoozing... they are such a tiny beautiful bundle of soft cuddlies when they are sleeping, bless them X
Yes i'm going to take her to my vet asap, they care for my rabbits and have a good reputation locally for exotics.
Thanks again, i'll post pics when i can. Fabulous info on here

Welcome to the forum!
I love your names.
I've never heard of the rapid aging thing either. Maybe you could link it?
When one of my mice who did this didn't improve with any of our treatments (yet was still active and the sweetest thing) the vet chalked it up to something we couldn't see... like some sort of organ disease, maybe. Another girl just had a broken foot that needed antibiotics and pain treatment. I hope your vet will be able to help Kiki!
Looking forward to pictures.

Welcome! Poor Kiki, at least she is still a happy mouse despite her condition. I can't wait to see pictures of all of your little girls!

Welcome to the forum. Other than how she looks, it doesn't sound like she has any obvious signs of illness and she sounds happy. Let us know how it goes at the vet.

Re: New mousey-mum to 6 little girrls X
Hi everyone ,
Thankyou for all your replies X
After i posted last friday, i booked my Kiki in with my vets for the following morning..but when i went to check them early on Saturday morning Kiki had already passed
Oh gosh, it's sooo hard isnt it! I held her in my hands and tried to convince her to wake up, and i eventually said goodbye..such a sweet little thing and such a short life, but she was skitting about until the end.
I took my remaing 5 mice to the vets today and they have all been given a clean bill of health
They were soooo good. Never once did any of them nip or overly panic, beautiful little friends they are hey. So just thought i'd update on this and hopefully move forward to having a happy, healthy little tribe of Girlies.
Thanks again everyone X
