Squeaky saucer wheel

Post by Peachy on Sun Oct 02, 2016 9:34 pm

Anyone know how to fix a squeaky saucer wheel? My girls' used to just do it when started or stopped running, but now it's kind of an all the time thing, and it's driving me b-a-n-a-n-a-s. (Anyone else sing that song when they need to spell bananas? Giggling) I dripped oil where it turns but it hasn't done anything to help, and I didn't want to do more in case it gets yucky. Scratch

Is there a way to take it apart, and put it back together again? That's always worked for my silent spinners but looking at a flying saucer I don't know here to start.

I Googled before posting here, but those ideas must be old, for a different kind of saucer, or maybe just going over my head. lol I tried to pull it apart but nothing budged.

Guess I could order a new one if there's no fix, but kinda disappointing. Razz

I had this before, and when I pulled the wheel off the base, there was loads of white powder. Looked like the mice had ran on it so much/so fast that the plastic axle bit had been worn down. I cleaned out the powdery stuff, rubbed a bit of olive oil on it, and put it back together. Haven't had a problem with it squeaking since, and didn't need to re-oil.

But if your saucer won't come off the base I don't know Sad

I decided to try again this morning and the saucer part flew across the room. It does come apart! I just wasn't trying hard enough, I guess. There's lots of white stuff in there so I'll try that suggestion. Thanks!

Update: It works great now! It even spins smoother, so the girls can't use it to climb stuff anymore. lol

Thanks for the picture! Helps to see how it comes apart for if I need in the future. I'm glad you were able to get it working like new again (or better than new?).

I've had this happen, too. I think this is an inevitable problem if you've had the wheel a long time and/or it has a lot of miles on it. It's hard to get off though! But after a good cleaning and a smear of vaseline on the inside... It's good to go for another year or two!
