Smell of 3 females as compared to 1 male?
Hi all, just a quick question for those who have owned both female and male mice. Do 3 females smell as much as 1 male does? I would like to adopt another male mouse or a colony of females, but my family is concerned with the stench that another male mouse would bring. Is the smell of 3 females any less pungent? Thanks!

I'm my experience, no, a group of girls does not smell as strongly as a male. I've only ever had one male though, so maybe it was just him but his smell was a lot more noticeable. My husband, whose nose isn't that great, complained about it a lot. Because of it he always called Daryl "Triple D" (Dirty Daryl Dixon).

With my girls, I can stick my head in their tank and barely smell it. But Scout has a pretty strong smell, I can smell it just sitting next to his tank. So, girls smell much less in my opinion.

My eleven girls sitting in side by side cages don't smell half as much as one of my original bucks do.
I have a few bucks from my "smell less" experiment, even they smell more than the girls all put together.
So if smell was the only concern girls win hands down

» 2 new juvenile females (I hope) - musky smell and "fighting"?
» should i get one male mouse or three females??
» What do you think mice smell like?
» Does the smell usually reduce over time?
» Minimizing smell
